In my role as principle solution architect for payroll for GlobalView, I am responsible for the overall design of the payroll functionality that is utilised in all of the country solutions. I define the policies and standards such as naming conventions for successful co-existence of the 42 payroll country templates that deliver services to our clients in the system allowing the appropriate levels of segregation and integration as required. I am accountable for the design and implementation of cross country tools including reporting solutions, process management and service delivery tools that are utilised worldwide. The solution supports 42 countries, 32 currencies in 23 languages. I am also responsible for the design of the core personnel administration function which acts as the basis for all of the HCM functionality that is offered by GlobalView. My role requires an intimate understanding of the functional and technical design of the SAP payroll solution as well as high degree of understanding of the functionality of all of the HCM components, especially time management. I am the focal point for the design approval of any payroll functionality delivered within GlobalView.
I was accountable for the design and implementation of the country templates for the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and Jersey. The role needed to be knowledgeable in the legislative and customary practice of payroll delivery in those countries as well as being accountable for the design and implementation of the payroll templates which form the basis of all client implementations. In addition the role managed the product delivery life cycle as well as providing internal consultancy to implementation, client service, support and pre-sales teams as the in-country subject matter expert.
I worked in the business consulting division of EDS as an SAP HCM consultant. Having started my career in Information Technology with EDS following university, I started as a junior consultant and eventually became the design authority for the Rolls-Royce HCM technology solution portfolio at EDS before leaving to join ADP.
Initially a 6 month project to provide consultancy in Data migration for the Rolls-Royce global HR solution then being developed, my role developed into my taking a role as a consultant within the payroll team, to my being the design authority for the whole SAP HCM solution including further roll-outs into the US and Canada. I was eventually responsible for the delivery of the whole HR IT solution irrespective of technology platform which included working with solutions such as SAP HCM, SAP CRM (to implement EIC for shared services), Microsoft exchange integration, document management and the development of a bespoke internal and external web based recruitment solution implemented in Java.
Payroll consultant, in a two person team responsible for the in-sourcing of payroll from a public sector BPO organisation by implementation of the SAP HCM component for the United Kingdom. I was accountable for all aspects of the implementation from liaising with BASIS support, the finance team, designing the client strategy and landscape through to configuration of the personal administration functions, absences, attendances, work schedules, payroll schema and cycles, DME and payslip output right through to testing and so on. I also provided some support functions prior to the support being passed to the incumbent IT services organisation.
As an SAP HCM consultant I was responsible for providing support through the go-live and post go-live phases of the project which provided a comprehensive HCM solution to all businesses of the BBC eventually handing over the solution to a dedicated support team.
My first project with EDS was on the in-house implementation of the SAP HCM suite (HR at that time.) The solution offered a comprehensive portfolio of functionality implementing all aspects of HCM except for payroll and some aspects of Talent management.
Between 1994 and 1997 I was carrying out research at the Department of Chemistry, University of Southampton with the intention of obtaining my PhD. The work involved the synthesis of 4,5-diamino-1,8-naphthalimides such as the one pictured to the left (from an x-ray crystal structure (animation)). The research was been carried out in conjunction with Zeneca which is now part of AstraZeneca
My research was carried out under the supervision of Prof. J. M. Mellor.
Prior to studying for my PhD, I read for a Degree in Chemistry with computer science also at Southampton which resulted in my obtaining a first class honours degree.
